How can I do as little as possible today?
Having permission to say “I don't have to do all the things all the time. I can do more reflection at one period of the month”
Or
“I don't have to be outgoing, every week or every day, these things can come in cycles”
was novel for me... does it seem challenging to you?
What do you think of when you hear someone mention life coaching?
To me, coaching is a process that helps people find that inner-strength, integrity and clarity to take action. It’s not that someone out there has the answers, it’s about trusting yourself, knowing that you can and will figure it out – whatever the goal/challenge.
Let me share an example of why this has been my experience time and time again when I’ve given myself the gift of getting a coach.
One of my most recent coaches has been for climbing!
False summits and Persistence
“Should we keep going?”
My dad, two older brothers and I all knew the answer already. We’d backpacked three days and had our mountain legs. We’d hiked 26 miles already and this is where we were meant to camp: soft pine needle-padded ground by a lapping alpine lake.
Except, next door there was a party going on.
Red solo cups. Rave music. They were on a different adventure than us and it didn’t feel right to let the peace and beauty we found in the North Cascade mountains smudged by their revelry.
I slid my arms back into my 40L pack.
This lesson, always be ready to keep going, is something I learned every summer backpacking with my dad and brothers since I was thirteen…
I wish I didn’t get a cry voice when...
Sarah’s whole face and body changed as she said this, her jaw and shoulders relaxed in the realisation and she came out of this little somatic practice smiling.
When she imagined talking to her father in the future about the climate crisis she couldn’t find that cry voice.
Thrive! Book club for Sustainability professionals
Welcome! This is a book club for sustainability professionals who want to talk more about how to save the world without burning out.
Do you ever find yourself wondering, ‘how can I contribute best to preventing the climate crisis?’
What did you love doing as a kid?
Did you have a secret dream, maybe you’ve not even admitted it to yourself?
Only working with my first coach did I re-realise I’ve known all along what brings me the most joy, how I can contribute best to the climate-crisis.
28 interviews, 92 survey responses…
All the links to publications and findings from our research based on surveying 92 sustainability professionals and interviewing 28 in 2024 to understand what challenges they faced and what support they needed.
What do you love about being a sustainability professional?
Yes, it’s hard to work in sustainability.
But what if that’s the attraction?
Are you someone who would be bored if you were doing a repetitive, easy task?
That’s what we heard from Pat, a Sustainability Manager in a multinational corporation.
“I love the hardness of it. I love the challenge. These are hard problems,” Pat said, “it feels really exciting to be able to change systems from the inside.”
‘But Katherine, I don’t know you well enough yet’
I'm Katherine! A social climate scientist 🤓 and coach for sustainability professionals 🥳.
IPCC reports aren’t lions… and why that’s a problem
Imagine you’re being chased by a lion.
Your body’s cortisol, glycogen and adrenaline will rise to help you outrun the lion.
Because humans are designed to manage these acute stressors.
